RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve the agreement to reappoint Henry Gonzales as the Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights & Measures; and,
b. Authorize the Chair to execute agreement.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Henry Gonzales has served as the Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights & Measures since March 14, 2018. Prior to his tenure with the County of Monterey, Mr. Gonzales previously served in the same capacity with Ventura County. He is the first Latino Monterey County Commissioner and has many local accomplishments. His agricultural roots in Monterey County are deep. Mr. Gonzales is also active at the State level with the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association (CACASA), serving on their Board of Directors and working closely with State regulators.

The County of Monterey needs an experienced Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights & Measures. Mr. Gonzales is one of the most senior Commissioners in the State and is interested in continuing to serve in Monterey County. Therefore, it is recommended the Board of Supervisors approve the agreement to reappointment Henry Gonzales effective March 14, 2022, consistent with the attached employment agreement.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The County Administrative Office and the Office of County Counsel have reviewed the agreement to reappoint.

FINANCING:
Costs associated with this agreement are included within the department budget.
