RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve the employment agreement with Susan K. Blitch as County Counsel for the County of Monterey; and,
b. Authorize the Chair of the Board of Supervisors to execute the agreement.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Board of Supervisors recently appointed Susan K. Blitch as County Counsel, succeeding Les Girard, who retired as County Counsel in December 2023. It is necessary and appropriate to authorize the execution of an employment agreement for Ms. Blitch’s services, pursuant to Government Code section 27640 et seq. and Monterey County Code 2.21.020. The terms of the agreement have been negotiated by and are satisfactory to the County and Ms. Blitch and are consistent with the County’s published salary schedule for the position and the County’s Personnel Policies and Practices Resolution No. 98-394.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The County Administrative Officer reviewed and concurs with the recommended action.
FINANCING:
Costs associated with this agreement are included in the budget for the Office of County Counsel.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
The appointment of a County Counsel will allow for the management and oversight of operational activities at the Office of County Counsel.
