RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Approve the Renewal and Amendment No. 1 to agreement with Rancho Cielo, Inc. in the amount of $85,000 for a total aggregate of $170,000, to support programs for at-risk and adjudicated youth, extending the term date through June 30, 2016; and

b. Authorize the Chief Probation Officer or designee to sign the Amendment.

SUMMARY:
The proposed Amendment allocates funding in the amount of $85,000 to the existing agreement with Rancho Cielo to ensure continuation of services during FY 15-16.

DISCUSSION:
Rancho Cielo is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2000 as a comprehensive learning and social services center for underserved youth in Monterey County.

Through creative partnerships established with local organizations and the business community, educational and law enforcement agencies, the program targets at-risk youth and provides a wide array of services, programs and structured activities to lessen exposure to, and involvement with, juvenile crime in Monterey County.

Rancho Cielo hosts educational opportunities to students who could not achieve their academic goals in a traditional school setting through a small classroom size and tailored curriculum, as well as vocational training and job placement. It provides a variety of enrichment and vocational classes such as wood shop, sports, arts and crafts, music instruction and gardening in a project-based learning environment; exposes participants to cultural events, sports, recreation and outdoor activities within its extensive grounds.
