RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the Board of Supervisors:

Authorize the Deputy Purchasing Agent for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) or his designee to execute Amendment No. 6 to the Agreement (A-11123) with MModal Services LTD for medical dictation and transcription services at NMC, to extend the term of the Agreement for an additional twelve (12) month period for a revised full term of March 24, 2008 through June 30, 2017 with no increase to the previously approved Agreement amount of $4,000,000.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

MModal Services LTD provides remote transcription of medical record reports from the Medical Records and Radiology departments at NMC. The medical record reports contain patient specific data and information to facilitate patient care and treatment. The transcribed documentation must reflect the care rendered to the patient and the patient's response. The health record is considered a legal document and a business record as it records events at or about the time they happen. There are federal and state accrediting agency requirements for when patient information needs to be made available to caregivers. Additionally, insurance companies may require copies of the reports for validation of the patient's stay.
