Title: a. Authorize the submittal of two (2) grant applications to the California Department of Transportation for Highway Safety Improvement Project grant funds, to upgrade guardrails at various locations within Monterey County and for crosswalks enhancements at Castroville Blvd at Elkhorn Road and Rio Rd at Via Nona Marie intersections; b. RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Authorize the submittal of two (2) grant applications to the California Department of Transportation for Highway Safety Improvement Project grant funds, to upgrade guardrails at various locations within Monterey County and for crosswalks enhancements at Castroville Blvd at Elkhorn Road and Rio Rd at Via Nona Marie intersections;
b. Authorize the Resource Management Agency Director, or his designee, to act as the agent for the County in processing all documentation to secure these funds; and
c. Direct the Resource Management Agency to return to the Board for approval prior to acceptance of any grant award.

SUMMARY:
Approval of the recommended action will authorize the Resource Management Agency (RMA) to submit two (2) Highway Safety Improvement Project grant applications for 1) guardrail improvements at various locations in Monterey County and 2) crosswalk enhancements at the intersection of Castroville Boulevard and Elkhorn Road and at the intersection of Rio Road and Via Nona Marie. Submittal deadline for the grant applications is on August 12, 2016.
