RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution approving an amendment to the Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement for the Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency to change its name and logo to "Monterey One Water."
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA) was formed in 1972 to help provide a regional solution for treating member entities wastewater flows. The County of Monterey joined the MRWPCA Joint Powers Authority in 1979.
Over the past five years, MRWPCA has worked towards utilizing a variety of wastewater sources for beneficial reuse. This effort has been aided by the region's response to water conservation campaigns, a historic 5-year statewide drought, and rising costs of delivering potable water to local communities. A shift has occurred within the water and wastewater industries to view all water, wastewater, and stormwater supplies as potential sources for local potable demands. The MRWPCA is proposing and recommending to its members that the MRWPCA change its name and logo to "Monterey One Water" (Attachment A) to reflect the services currently provided by the MRWPCA. With the approval of the name change, the tagline of the agency will be changed to "Providing Cooperative Water Solutions."
The name of the MRWPCA is specified in the Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement. For the name change to become effective, each member agency must adopt a resolution (Attachment B) approving an amendment to the Agreement.
