RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Adopt a Resolution to approve closure of selected County departments and/or divisions located on and in the vicinity of La Guardia Street, Salinas, California for the California International Airshow for Friday, September 29, 2017, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and for this purpose only, waive Ordinance No. 766, fixing the day and hours of operation of County offices.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On September 7, 2017, the County received a notice from Don Chapin III, President of the California International Airshow, informing the County that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires a high speed acrobatic box for acts of the F-22 that is "sterilized" (no personnel), which would require closure and vacating of certain County office space within the corridor outlined by the FAA. This corridor includes selected County offices located on LaGuardia Street, housing certain units for the County's Department of Child Support Services, Department of Social Services (including One-Stop Center) and the Office of Employment and Training.
On September 30t, 2017 through October 1, 2017, the Salinas International Airshow will be celebrating its 37th anniversary. This year, as the Air Show includes flying of F-22 aircraft, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires a high speed acrobatic box for acts as the F-22 that is sterilized (cleared of all persons).
