Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer or designee to sign the Ergonomics Services Amendment No. 1 with Humanscale extending the time for performance to August 31, 2019 and increasing the compensation for services under the Agreement by $80,000 a total amount not to exceed $180,000; and
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The County of Monterey Ergonomics Process is vital to the prevention and management of work injuries at the County. The Ergonomics Process was fully implemented in 2009 and has provided over 3000 preventative ergonomic evaluations to date, reducing the risk of injury and illness of County employees. It is estimated that over the last ten years, at least 600 workers’ compensation cases have been prevented through the County’s pro-active, preventive process saving the County an estimated $13 million in future workers’ compensation costs.
The original agreement for Ergonomics Services with Humanscale in the amount of $100,000 began September 1, 2017 and expires on August 31, 2018.
Amendment No. 1 to the original agreement will extend the time for one year from September 1, 2018 through and including August 31, 2019 and will increase the agreement by $80,000 for a total amount not to exceed $180,000.
We plan to initiate a new RFP and the proposed Amendment No. 1 will allow the continuation of ergonomic services with our current providers through this fiscal year. The new RFP process and contract renewal is expected to be completed sometime in July 2019. An extension in time and value for the current service provider is requested until then.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Amendment No. 1 has been approved by County Counsel as to legal form; the Auditor-Controller as to fiscal terms; and County Counsel/Risk Management for insurance and indemnity provisions.
FINANCING:
Funding for this professional services agreement is provided from the Workers Compensation Internal Service Fund (#476).
