RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Adopt Plans and Special Provisions for the Jolon Road Bridge Rail Replacement, Project No. 1142; and
b. Authorize the Resource Management Agency Director to advertise the "Notice to Bidders" in the Monterey County Weekly.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Jolon Road Bridge Rail Replacement Project (Project) consists of the replacement and upgrade of the existing bridge rails and bridge rail approaches to current State Standards. Project limits are along Jolon Road one-quarter mile south of the intersection with Pine Canyon Road, for 200 feet north and south of the bridge approaches, approximately a total of 800 feet. The Project will also require clearing and grubbing around the bridge approach rails and traffic control consisting of temporary lane closures during work hours to establish safe work zone. Two lanes of traffic, one of each direction, will be maintained during nonwork periods.

The bid opening is set for December 12, 2019 at 3:00 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors' Conference Room 1032, Monterey County Government Center, 168 West Alisal Street, 1st Floor, Salinas, California 93901. Project construction is scheduled to begin in February 2020.

In compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the Monterey County Resource Management Agency (RMA) filed a Notice of Exemption on February 1st, 2016. The project was determined to be categorically exempt (Class 1) from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) because it is to perform repair and maintenance of existing streets and similar facilities, which involves no expansion of an existing use (See California Code of Regulations ? 15301 Existing Facilities).
